Entering Grade 9
Welcome to Grade 9!
All Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB) secondary schools offer an exciting variety of educational opportunities. These are enhanced by a range of clubs, sports and art activities designed to support a student’s areas of interest.
How to Register
Students currently registered in a WRDSB school for Grade 8 will receive course option sheets.
Students not currently registered in a Waterloo Region school should visit the school locator to locate their home school.
All secondary schools provide orientation opportunities for Grade 8 students and those newly arriving in Grade 9. Information about the dates of these events is available from your Grade 8 school or by contacting the Guidance Department of your local secondary school.
Selecting Courses for Grade 9
Grade 8 students are invited to attend information sessions about course offerings and course selection with their parents. These sessions usually occur in December or January.
Students should try to plan ahead for the courses they would like to take in their secondary school years. Each year, students should review their plan and if necessary, modify their course selection to make sure they meet graduation requirement and pre-requisites for their post-secondary destinations. Teachers and guidance counsellors can advise and help students with their planning for course selection. More detailed information on course selection is available by visiting the Course Selection page. Information is also available from your Grade 8 school.
The secondary school Guidance Department will also provide information on possible post-secondary destinations. The Grade 10 Career Course can also assist students in exploring potential careers.
