It is important to be vigilant about the information provided for GenAI prompts. An individual’s privacy is violated when Personally Identifiable Information (PII) is used with GenAI. 

  • Only use WRDSB-approved GenAI tools that meet defined privacy and security standards.
  • Do not enter any personal or private information.
  • Do not enter any confidential or sensitive data, information, or content into the tool.
  • Do not input the work of other students into GenAI tools.

What Is Personally Identifiable Information (PII)?

PII is defined as anything that can identify a specific individual. For example:

  • Social Insurance Number (SIN)
  • Ontario Education Number (OEN)
  • Date of birth
  • Name
  • Demographic information
  • Voice
  • Photo
  • Grade
  • School

Why It Matters

Responsible use of GenAI tools must be guided by professional judgment, critical thinking and awareness of privacy, security, and bias.
