Many multilingual language learners do not require special education support, and only require support for learning English. If Special Education support of any kind is needed, it may involve different teaching strategies or equipment to allow them to be successful in school.  A student can access special education support in addition to language support when there is a diagnosis, such as:

-Deaf and hard of hearing (hearing loss)

-Blind and low vision

-Physical Needs

-Autism

-Learning Disability

-Developmental Disability

-ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder)

If a student is not progressing well over a few years and they do not have a diagnosis, the school may need to investigate whether or not they will benefit from special education support.
