For more than 30 years, our schools have been devoted to promoting heart health and social responsibility through many fundraising events for the Heart and Stroke Foundation. By raising money and making each event educational and fun for everyone involved, we have been able to create even more survivors.

The commitment from our Board is unbelievable!

Our schools have participated through various events such as Jump Rope for Heart and Hoops for Heart, and our dedicated staff, students and school communities have raised an incredible $4,385,604.66 – almost $4.5 million dollars – for the Heart and Stroke Foundation. In 2014-15 alone, 54 WRDSB schools participated and raised $302,236.37!

The WRDSB would like to especially congratulate Edna Staebler Public School for being last school year’s Top Fundraising School – their total was $11,006.41 – and Highland Public School who has been running the Jump Rope for Heart event since 1995 and is the Highest Overall Fundraising School in the Waterloo Region – their combined total is $212,512.12!

The money raised for the Heart and Stroke Foundation goes to a variety of different preventative measures, and heart and stroke research streams. In Waterloo Region, all WRDSB schools are now equipped with automated external defibrillators (AEDs). In addition, research projects continue to be funded at the University of Waterloo. Across Canada, they have placed over 8,000 AEDs, saving over 100 lives to date. The advancements in heart and stroke research and detection could not be possible without the help of all our school communities.

The Heart and Stroke Foundation would like to take this opportunity to thank all our schools for their ongoing support.

Let’s make 2015-16 our biggest year yet!
