Students at Jean Steckle Public School in Kitchener put on quite a show at their very first Steckle Stars Talent Assembly. Students, staff,  and family members gathered in the gym, and were treated to a wide variety of talents from the Steckle Stars.

Student emcees introduced each act, and interacted with the audience throughout the show. Members of the audience sat back and enjoyed a comedy act, solo numbers that included seasonal songs as well as popular student favourites, piano interludes of holiday songs, and even a magic act! It’s safe to say that there is no shortage of talent at Jean Steckle PS.

Not only are Jean Steckle PS students full of talent, they’re also full of heart. December 8th- 12th was the Week of Giving at the school, and students supported a new charity each day:

Monday saw students support a teddy bear drive, and all bears collected were donated to the 20th annual Teddy Bear Toss at the Kitchener Rangers game on December 9th. A total of 271 bears were collected at the school, and they joined the over 10,000 bears that were tossed on to the ice at the game.

Tuesday was Turkey Toonies, to support a turkey drive. Students brought in toonies, or any amount that students were able to donate. For every $25 collected, the Kitchener-Conestoga Rotary Club will provide a family in need with a turkey. This year, $756 was collected, which will provide approximately 30 dinners for families in our community.

Wednesday had students help Spread the Warmth, as new hats, mittens, socks, and gently used winter coats were collected for the House of Friendship. Over 450 items were collected to help keep members of our community warm this winter.

Thursday included a collection of Canadian Tire Money, which was used to purchase 41 gifts for the Tree of Angels.

Friday students were encouraged to bring a non-perishable item for the Food Bank of Waterloo Region. Students collected 922 items to donate to the food bank, ensuring that families in our region have full bellies this holiday season.

We’d like to offer a huge congratulations to the entire Jean Steckle community – your generosity will be felt my many throughout the region this holiday season!
