Every year the Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB) Facility Services Department awards 5 schools with an EcoSchool Measures prize. Each prize is developed to promote ecological sustainability principles in our schools, furthermore the prizes are low maintenance, energy and water efficient and meant to be permanent structures in the school. The 2012 winners are Highland Public School, Forest Hill Public School, Waterloo Collegiate Institute (WCI), Centennial Public School (Cambridge) and New Dundee Public School. Along with the installation of the prize, each school received a plaque to recognize their achievement. All prizes have been installed with the exception of New Dundee PS; this prize will be installed once renovations at the school are complete. New Dundee PS is going to have several trees planted for their prize to enhance the school ground greening.

Highland PS received a Big Screen LED Monitor, Forest Hill PS received a Water Hydration Station, Centennial PS (C) received Occupancy Sensors and WCI Received a Water Hydration Station.

To ensure fairness and promote equality, the WRDSB does not allow future prizes to be awarded to past EcoSchool winners. This award is made possible with the help of the energy conservation incentive rebate program, MicroFIT, the Ontario Power Authority, Union Gas Limited and Reliance Home Comfort.

We want to congratulate all staff and students at the winning schools on their accomplishment!
