Searching for Books In Your School Library

Search for resources in the Library Learning Commons catalogue.

Choose your school from the drop-down menu.

Enter your search term, then click the search icon.

A General Keyword search will give you the most results.

You can also click on the Advanced tab, and select your choice of Language (English, French, Spanish), Collection Type, and Audience level.

To quickly see pictures of the books in your library, click on the Kids tab.

Online Reading Resources for MLLs

Tumble Book Online Library

Find narrated picture books, fiction and non-fiction titles in the TumbleBook Library on the Elementary – eBook section of the WRDSB Virtual Library.

  • Story Books: Read along or listen to your favourite picture books.  
  • Read-Alongs: These online books read the story to you and highlight the words that are being read.
  • Videos: These are short non-fiction videos by National Geographic .
  • Language Learning: Find books in Spanish and French as well as a few titles in Chinese, Italian and Russian. Many books are bilingual, allowing you to read the book in two languages.
  • Non-Fiction Books: Read non-fiction books about many different topics.

International stories with more than one language for most books. The International Children’s Digital Library provides you with a chance to choose books in your first language.

Arabic-English Wellness Books

The Ergo Live Well collection has Arabic-English wellness books to help with mood, sleep, and mental health.

Storybooks Canada

The Storybooks Canada website has 40 stories from the African Storybook available with text and audio in English, French, and the most widely spoken immigrant and refugee languages of Canada.

The Unite for Literacy website has both fiction and nonfiction books written in English and Spanish, with audio in many different languages.

Rosetta Children’s Books Online

The Rosetta Children’s Books Online website features links to children’s books in many languages.

Public Libraries

Many libraries offer programming for children and families. Some libraries offer free conversation circles and other programs for newcomer families. A library card is free and can be used to borrow books and videos. Please see the following websites for more information:
