Ministry Resources:

Ontario’s “It Gets Better” Project  is being introduced to take a stronger stance on bullying. Amendments will be made to the Education Act to give this legislation enhanced legal authority. Pupils will be disciplined for progressively more serious consequences for repeated or more serious, inappropriate behaviour.  Interventions will happen earlier and be ongoing. The new bill states resources will be provided to pupils who are impacted by inappropriate behaviour and the support pupils engaging in inappropriate behaviour. Resources: PREVNet.ca – Promoting Relationships and Eliminating Violence – Launched in 2006 with Networks of Centre of Excellence, PREVNet’s mission is to stop bullying in Canada and to promote safe and healthy relationships for all Canadian children and youth.  Led by Scientific co-directors, Dr. Debra Pepler of York University and Dr. Wendy Craig of Queen’s University, this national network is the first of its kind in Canada, providing an unprecedented national opportunity for social-cultural change.

Bully B’Ware
Bullying.org – Canada’s original bullying website, now sponsored by the Family Chanel and BBI Internet. The site uses different media – writing, drawing, music film, poetry – to educate children about bullying. A finalist for the Stockholm Challenge Awards in 2001, it has been called one of the best web sites in the world for children.

Kids Help Phone
National Film Board – Bully Dance – Awareness campaign that is a joint effort by the NFB and the Canada Safety Council. Endorsed by Kids Help Phone and the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police. NFB produced the short video called Bully Dance, available with teacher’s guide.
