May 5 is designated as the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and Two-Spirit People (MMIWG2S). This is a day to honour and remember all missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls, and 2SLGBTQQIA+ People who are more than twelve times as likely to go missing or be murdered than any other population in what is now known as Canada.

Flags at the Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB) Education Centre will be flown at half-mast from the end of the day today until we re-open on Monday, May 6.

May 5 is also known as Red Dress Day, which is meant to draw attention to missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls, and 2SLGBTQQIA+ People and is a call for all Canadians to remember and to take action.
