The Retiring Class of 2016

On June 14, 2016, we had the pleasure of celebrating the retirement of 211 WRDSB employees.

Together, these employees who included principals, secretaries, custodians, tradespeople, superintendents, teachers, education assistants, child and youth workers, and support staff, have over 5000 years of service and helped contribute to the education of thousands of students in Waterloo Region.

The Eastwood Sound Machine, an all-boys a capella group from Eastwood Collegiate Institute, started the evening off with a musical presentation. They performed many hits, including some from Bruno Mars, and Bastille. But it was a music lesson on how only four keys are needed to make a hit pop song that really got the crowd going.

Chairperson Kathleen Woodcock brought greetings from the Board of Trustees and handed out gifts with Vice-Chair John Hendry. Trustees Cindy Watson, Kathi Smith, Carol Millar, and Colin Harrington were also there to congratulate all retirees as they walked across the stage.

Each year, a retiree speaks on behalf of all retiring employees, and this year Donna Voisin gave the address to the retiring class of 2016. Donna retired as a support analyst in IT Services in September, after 37 years with the board. She spoke of the opportunities that each retiree had while working with the WRDSB, and that is the opportunity to have an impact on the lives of each student.

Director of Education John Bryant thanked everyone for the many years of service that they committed to student achievement, and for inspiring our learners to be the leaders of tomorrow.

We wish our retiring class of 2016 all the best. Thank you for everything you have done for the students in Waterloo Region and for the WRDSB!
