We all want to live in a world where we breath fresh air, create less waste, and have a positive impact on our environment – right? Which is why keeping our schools ‘green’ and helping them make the transition to be more environmentally friendly is a large initiative that our Board takes very seriously.

Every year, our staff and students have the opportunity to make changes within their school, large or small, that will better the environment, reduce our carbon footprint, and educate our students. This is done by adding environmental strategies at their school, such as recycling programs, outdoor greening projects, waste-free lunches, and energy conservation initiatives to just name a few.

We are thrilled to announce the long list of 18 WRDSB schools who have been awarded certification for their environmental accomplishments by Ontario EcoSchools:

  1. Baden Public School
  2. Bluevale Collegiate Institute
  3. Brigadoon Public School
  4. Eastwood Collegiate Institute
  5. Elgin Street Public School
  6. Forest Glen Public School
  7. Franklin Public School
  8. Glenview Park Secondary School
  9. Hillcrest Public School
  10. J.W. Gerth Public School
  11. Jacob Hespeler Secondary School

  14. Moffat Creek Public School
  15. New Dundee Public School
  16. Pioneer Park Public School
  17. Sandhills Public School
  18. Sir Adam Beck Public School

In addition to the great achievement of all of these schools, special recognition is in order for Glenview Park SS AND Elgin Street PS – they have become the first WRDSB schools in our history to achieve the Platinum status certification! Way to go!

Both students and staff have worked hard this year by raising awareness, demonstrating leadership and promoting environmental stewardship through this rigorous program, and we are very proud of their accomplishments – congratulations to all!
