Congratulations to retired Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB) elementary Principal Rhonda Kran on receiving the 2015 Laurier Centre for Music in the Community Award of Recognition. This award recognizes an individual who extends their leadership to embrace music making for the good of the community.

Since the early 1990s, Rhonda began her Kodaly Choral Festival experience as a teacher when she volunteered to support the event. As Rhonda transitioned roles within the WRDSB, she kept her Kodaly commitment as Chairperson while maintaining a busy career as an elementary principal. Now in retirement, she continues to lead the very successful two-day music festival.

Under her leadership, more than 1,000 students from 48 WRDSB elementary schools perform annually. The Kodaly Choral Festival opportunity is a way for junior students to develop an important background in music in preparation for the secondary school music programs.

The festival is a vibrant showcase of the many vocal talents our WRDSB students have, and because of Rhonda’s leadership and talent, it continues to thrive as a centrepiece of vocal music in our community. Her longstanding contribution to the annual Kodaly Choral Festival is what makes her the perfect recipient of the award. On behalf of the entire WRDSB, thank you for your commitment and dedication to our music community!
