Almost a year to the day, Dave Jaworsky was named City of Waterloo’s 17th Mayor, and it was just a few weeks ago a Grade 4 student from Edna Staebler Public School won a contest to have dinner with the Waterloo Mayor. During their dinner discussion, the student asked if he would like to come to her school and talk to her class – without hesitation, Mayor Jaworsky said yes!

Delighted at the answer, the student went back to school next day and worked with her teacher and the principal to set up a time.

On Wednesday, October 28, the Grade 4 and 5 students at Edna Staebler PS welcomed Waterloo Mayor Dave Jaworsky to their school.

Mayor Jaworsky started his time by introducing himself and asked students what they liked about the community they lived in. He then talked about why he decided to run for Mayor, what his role in the municipal government is, and what it’s like to be the representative of Waterloo. Once Mayor Jaworsky was done addressing the students, he graciously answered questions. The topics ranged from who has he met as Mayor, what are his favorite hobbies, does he get time off, to clarifying questions about the different levels of government.

The students ended his visit by presenting him with a handmade ‘Thank You’ card and a round of applause. We wouldn’t be surprised if we have future politicians in that crowd!

Thank you to Mayor Jaworsky for visiting Edna Staebler PS, and teaching these students, first-hand, what it’s like to be Mayor.
