As they have for years, Edna Staebler Public School continues to hold monthly caring assemblies. The purpose of these gatherings is to bring the whole school together and talk about how each of us can make the world a better place, right now.

Their caring assemblies centre around a picture book that a guest reader, usually a staff member, reads. Copies of the book are then available for teachers to use later in class to discuss the message further. Students often participate in the assemblies by acting out skits, reciting poems, or showing artwork that they have done to illustrate a point in this month’s story or in response into the previous month’s story. Some student groups have also made presentations about projects they’re working on, like the Me to We group which raised money to buy goats for families in a developing country.

Bringing the school together once a month is just one of the many ways Edna Staebler PS builds up a sense of community within the school.
