Starting today, Laurelwood Public School is sharing with the community by celebrating a Week of Giving. Each day students are encouraged to donate a different item for a different local charity to help make someone’s holiday season a little brighter.

  • Munchin Monday – donation of toys and toddler clothes for babies and children
  • Toiletry Tuesday – donation of toilet paper, deodorant, soap, shampoo and toothpaste
  • Woollie Wednesday – collection of hats, mittens and scarves
  • Turkey Thursday – money donation for the Rotary Clubs of Kitchener-Waterloo Turkey Drive; last year Laurelwood PS raised over $4000
  • Food Friday – collection of canned food items, such as: peanut butter, beans in sauce, canned fish, canned fruit, cold cereal, and canned pasta; all items will be given to The Food Bank of Waterloo Region and House of Friendship.

Thanks to Sobeys Inc., they have donated 12 shopping carts to help with storing all of the generous donations Laurelwood’s school community donates. Every day an assembly will be held so students can bring their donations down and watch their carts overflow.

The charities chosen to receive these wonderful gifts are YMCA’s Mary’s Place, Women’s Crisis Services of Waterloo Region – Anselma House, St. Monica’s Place – For Pregnant and Parenting Youth, oneROOF Youth Services, House of Friendship, Out of the Cold and The Food Bank of Waterloo Region.

The school’s motto for the week is: Show you care.  Give a little.  Give a lot. Together we can make a difference.
