Canadian Olympic ice dancers Andrew Poje and Kaitlyn Weaver recently paid a special visit to Bluevale Collegiate Institute to share their personal story of passion, dedication, adversity, and triumph.

It was a homecoming for Poje, who graduated from Bluevale in 2005 and was voted “most likely to go to the Olympics” by his high school peers. He admitted that it felt weird to be back in his home school, and he was excited to take a look around the recently renovated building. “But it feels nice because this is part of who I am, and it was here where I started feeling I could achieve my goal,” Poje said.

Poje and Weaver’s story included the heartbreak of missing the 2010 Vancouver Olympics by three-tenths of a point, the dedication and sacrifices they have made to continue to pursue their dreams, and finally the triumph of representing Canada in Sochi this year. Bluevale students and staff were captivated with their message, and afterwards flocked to the pair for the rare chance at an autograph and a photo. It was a proud day to be a Canadian, and to be a Bluevale Knight.
