The WRDSB is a diverse and dynamic community, and the region is home to people from all over the world, including Indigenous Peoples who have always lived in what is now known as Canada.
Every student in the WRDSB should feel comfortable, welcomed, and included.
Through the Culturally Responsive and Relevant Pedagogy (CRRP) approach, educators in the WRDSB work to increase educational equity by building and refining their own equity lens.
Culturally Responsive and Relevant educators share a particular set of dispositions and skills that allow them to support all students in diverse settings. These characteristics include:
- Socio-cultural consciousness
- High expectations
- Desire to make a difference
- Constructivist approach
- Deep knowledge of their students
- Culturally responsive teaching practices
The Equity & Inclusion Team facilitates learning around this approach and provides resources and information to support individual or school-wide CRRP initiatives.
