The work of equity cannot be done in isolation. This work depends on collaboration with others so that multiple and diverse perspectives are brought together. Some of these supporting groups include:
Student Groups
Black Student Associations
These student-led clubs, run typically in high schools, provide space for mentorship, education, allyship, and leadership in the school and community.
Gay-Straight Alliances
A Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA) is a student-run club, typically in a high school or middle school, which provides a safe place for students to meet, support each other, talk about issues related to sexual orientation and gender identity and expression, and work to end homophobia and transphobia. There are three typical functions of a GSA club: Support, Social, and Activist.
Advisory Groups
Equity and Inclusion Advisory Group (EIAG)
Representing a number of organizations that work with marginalized groups, members of the EIAG provide a community driven approach and offer an intersectional equity lens through a range of lived experiences. The EIAG advises the WRDSB in the implementation of the recommendations from the Equity Audit (May 2007), upholding the Equity and Inclusion Policy and supports the Equity and Indigenous Action Plan.
Meeting monthly, the EIAG provides a forum for community members to share their perspectives and to provide input and suggestions to enable the WRDSB to provide inclusive and equitable environments for students, staff, parents and community members.
Staff Groups
Indigenous and Equity Leads
The Indigenous and Equity Lead is the contact person from each WRDSB school for the Indigenous Learning Team and the Equity & Inclusion Team. This group receives resources and information that can be shared with colleagues at each school.
Indigenous and Racialized Teachers (IRT) for Leadership
This group supports teachers who self-identify as racialized or Indigenous, with the goal of supporting, mentoring and preparing them to explore leadership within the WRDSB.
Racialized Administrators Mentorship and Support (IRAMS)
The purpose of this group is to provide a safe space for Indigenous and racialized administrators to network, support one another, and learn from the experiences of the other participants. This program provides a platform whereby participants can provide leadership pursuant to the Equity and Indigenous Action Plan.
