Parents, families and caregivers are important partners in their child’s education. We also know it is important for parents, families and caregivers to have the information they need to help their child be successful.
Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB) has developed a Parent, Family and Caregiver Communications Protocol to outline the process for communicating with parents, families and caregivers. This is alignment with:
- Policy/Program Memorandum No.170 – School Board Communication with Parents
- Better Schools and Student Outcomes Act, 2023
- Amendments to the Education Act
Our Commitment to Accessible and Transparent Communications
WRDSB has a variety of processes and tools to connect, inform, collaborate and engage with parents, families and caregivers about students’ education:
- School and Board websites
- Phone and in-person conversations
- Emails (including using School-Day)
- Social media
- School Councils
The Parent, Family and Caregiver Communications Protocol shares information about:
- Code of Conduct
- Parent, Family and Caregiver Engagement
- Guest Speakers in Schools
- Information about Professional Development Days
- The Process for Addressing Concerns
- Supporting Student Learning and Accommodating Creed
Additionally, the protocol shares links to the Ministry of Education curriculum, resources, and ways for parents, families and caregivers to stay informed about their child’s progress.
We also invite parent, family and caregiver participation through their child’s school council, Parent Involvement Committee (PIC) and Waterloo Region Assembly of Public School Councils (WRAPSC).
Stay Informed and Engaged
The WRDSB is committed to sharing information to help parents, families and caregivers stay up-to-date on what your child is learning in school and to access necessary resources. If you have specific questions about your child, please contact your child’s teacher or school administrator.
