Environment Canada has issued a Special Air Quality Statement that covers all of Ontario, including Waterloo Region. Smoke plumes from forest fires in Manitoba and other provinces in Canada may result in deteriorating air quality in our Region in coming days and weeks.

Responding to the Special Air Quality Statement

Outdoor activities may continue as normal. Schools will continue to monitor the air quality conditions over the course of the day and the next few weeks. Schools may choose to reduce outdoor activities as needed.

Outdoor recess may still continue, however, students will be encouraged to avoid any strenuous activities and schools will accommodate individuals who are at a higher risk.

Schools will keep doors and windows closed, and continue running HEPA units.
