This week is Education Week in Ontario. Recognized during the first week of May each year, Education Week gives us the opportunity to celebrate student achievement and teaching excellence in the Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB).

Guided by our Strategic Plan and Board Improvement and Equity Plan (BIEP), this year for Education Week, the WRDSB is highlighting our focus on mathematics and literacy while making sure students feel heard, represented and engaged in their learning.

WRDSB Structured Literacy Multi-Year Plan

In February 2024, we introduced the Structured Literacy Multi-Year Plan (SLMYP). This plan aims to help all WRDSB students develop the literacy skills they need to help them succeed in the classroom, and in life. It prioritizes literacy education with the goal of making sure each and every WRDSB student becomes a confident reader, writer, and learner.

WRDSB Math Achievement Action Plan

In the Fall of 2023, we launched the Math Achievement Action Plan (MAAP), which spans across all grade levels, from Kindergarten to graduation. WRDSB is committed to supporting all students in developing a strong foundational understanding of mathematics. We know this is an essential skill for all students.

Graduation Pathways

To help students pursue their desired post-secondary pathway, we offer a variety of popular programs such as:

A Thank You to WRDSB Education Workers

As we mark Education Week, we ask families and caregivers to join us as we express gratitude to the WRDSB education workers who make a difference in your child’s education and life each day.

We also want to thank families and community members for their support, trust and partnership. Every day you send your child to our schools, you are entrusting us with helping to build their future – not a trust we take lightly. It takes a community of people – educators, families, caregivers, and community members – to help WRDSB students succeed.
