The Waterloo Region District School Board has begun a cautious and purposeful reopening of our school spaces for community use and school rentals.

In an effort to maintain stability within our schools and make sure we have adequate staffing levels, we will be initiating a four-step phased plan. These phases will give priority to those rental groups that are currently registered in our systems:

  • Phase 1: April 2, 2022 – Secondary school gyms will be available for both Saturday and Sunday use. Spectators will not be permitted at this time.
  • Phase 2: April 23, 2022 – Elementary school gyms will be available for both Saturday and Sunday use. Spectators will not be permitted at this time.
  • Phase 3: May 2, 2022 – Gyms in both secondary and elementary schools will be available for use on weeknights.
  • Phase 4: On May 24, 2022 – Other spaces in our schools such as libraries and classrooms will be available for use on weeknights and weekends.

Summer Requests

Community members or groups can submit their request from April 1 to 30, 2022, and outdoor permits will be reviewed and approved following our normal practice.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we have navigated the COVID-19 pandemic. As always, we will continue to monitor the status provincially and regionally, in consultation with public health and our community partners, to ensure that we can provide a safe school environment for our students, staff, and the community. This phased plan may change due to provincial guidelines. Announcements and updates will be shared on our website, social media channels, and our booking system.
