Joanne Weston elected as Chair and Scott Piatkowski elected Vice-Chair

At the Inaugural Board Meeting of the Waterloo Region District School Board, trustees elected Joanne Weston as Chair and Scott Piatkowski as Vice-Chair.

Trustee Weston, representing Kitchener, and Trustee Piatkowski, serving Waterloo and Wilmot, are in their first term as trustees. This is their first time serving as Chair and Vice-Chair. Trustee Weston served as Vice-Chair for the past two years.

“Thank you to all my colleagues for your confidence in me to represent the WRDSB as Chairperson,” said Weston. “Your support means a lot to me as we look to the challenges ahead of us. Congratulations to Trustee Piatkowski on being acclaimed to the position of Vice-Chair – I look forward to working as closely with Vice-Chair Piatkowski as past Chairperson Herring and I did. I firmly believe that this board is up to the challenges ahead and we will meet them head-on, leading through education and example.”

“I want to thank all of my valued Trustee colleagues for putting their confidence in me for this role,” said Piatkowski. “I want to join Chairperson Weston in thanking Outgoing Chairperson Herring for her steadfast leadership of this Board – she rose to every challenge and I am looking forward to her continued mentorship in her new role as Past Chairperson.”

“As we continue to navigate the COVID-19 pandemic and adapt our learning plans to ensure the health and safety of our students and staff, trustees will continue to play a vital role in advocating for the achievement and well-being of our students and their families,” says Director of Education John Bryant. “ I look forward to working with Chairperson Weston and Vice-Chair Piatkowski in supporting our students, each and every one, whether in-person or by distance learning”
