After reading the first couple of Parent Posts, I’m the sure you’re wondering, “how can I get involved with the great group of people at PIC?” Wonder no more. There are many ways to get involved with PIC or WRAPSC, and to support the parents and students in our region. Here’s how:

Join PIC

You can become a parent member of PIC. Each spring, we begin accepting applications from parents to join the committee. You’ll find information about this opportunity in upcoming Parent Posts as well as on PIC’s website.

Attend a PIC Meeting

All PIC meetings are open to the public. We would love to welcome you as a guest to one our meetings. It’s a great chance to see for yourself all of the interesting things we are learning and discussing. The meeting schedule is listed on the PIC website. You will find the agendas and minutes of past meetings there as well.

Volunteer to be on a PIC Subcommittee

Did you know that you don’t have to be a PIC member to be on a PIC subcommittee? Currently, PIC has subcommittees working on Safe, Caring and Inclusive Schools (SCIS), Well-being, Immigrant Engagement and the planning for our annual parent conference. If you are interested in helping out with any of these initiatives, contact us at pic@wrdsb.ca.

Attend a PIC Event

One of PIC’s main activities every year is planning our full-day parent conference. Haven’t heard of it? Here’s the scoop. With the financial support of the Ministry of Education, through a Parents Reaching Out Grant, PIC organizes a parent conference every April. Why come?

  • It’s free
  • You will hear great speakers, including a keynote and numerous breakout sessions with topics of interest for everyone
  • We offer free child care
  • You can browse our vendor fair to learn about exciting, local resources to help support parents and children

This school year’s conference will be held at Bluevale Collegiate Institute on April 7, 2018. I hope to see you there.

Attend a WRAPSC Meeting

WRAPSC meetings are open to the public. You can attend a meeting as your school council’s WRAPSC representative or as an interested parent. WRAPSC meets in the evenings at Forest Heights Collegiate. The meeting schedule can be found on WRAPSC’s website.

Stay connected online

We post about upcoming events in the community, links to parent resources, important information about PIC and WRAPSC meetings, and much more.

I hope you will connect with us digitally, or in-person at one of our upcoming meetings or events.
