Waterloo Region District School Board is ranked amongst the top 100 employers in Canada according to an annual report from the US-based financial magazine, Forbes.

The school district is listed at 88 between the Toronto-based Ontario Power Generation and clothing retailer Joe Fresh. Queen’s University tops the list.

WRDSB is among only three school districts listed, behind Ottawa-Carleton District School Board at 82 and ahead of York Region District School Board (92). In total, only five school districts are listed in the top 300 Canadian employers.

“It’s an honour to be listed amongst Canada’s top employers and to represent our region alongside prestigious institutions like the University of Waterloo,” said John Bryant, director of education. “We are an innovative school district that places a high priority on equipping our staff with the skills and resources they need to support our students’ success and well-being.”

Other Waterloo region headquartered companies listed include University of Waterloo (73) and Home Hardware (153).

Forbes partners with online statistics provider Statista to compile the ranking using several anonymous online access panels. Forbes and Statista surveyed more than 8,000 Canadian employees working for large organizations and asked them to rate their willingness to recommend their employer on a scale of one to ten.

WRDSB is one of the larger public school boards in Ontario serving more than 63,000 students in 118 schools. It employs more than 8,000 full- and part-time staff to provide instruction designed to develop in students the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to provide a solid foundation for living and learning.
