Moffat Creek Public School celebrated the official opening of their natural play space and learning grounds on October 6. Special guests, students and staff gathered to cut the ribbon and officially open the learning grounds.
The new outdoor space has many opportunities for students to explore and play with special features such as a climbing wall, seating areas and an outdoor classroom, a walking path and many trees designed to provide shade for years to come.
The outdoor learning grounds was inspired and led by the school council, who diligently set aside funds raised for the past four years to support this project; three members in particular. Mrs VanWyngaarden, school council chair, Mrs Duench, committee chair, and Mrs MacGregor-Fox. The entire school community would like to thank Mr Seeley from our Facilities Department, who provided many hours dedicated to this project. Considerable funding was generously provided by the Lyle S. Hallman Foundation, TD Friends of the Environment, Toyota Evergreen, and The Region of Waterloo.
For the past three years, Earthscape, Fast Forest and Schaeffer Construction worked closely with the school to make the first phase of the outdoor space a reality. There are two more phases planned for the upcoming years, including a full day kindergarten discovery space and a primary exploration space.
Thank you to everyone who made this new outdoor learning grounds a reality. The Moffat Creek Cardinals are looking forward to using this space for many years to come.
