Back in January, New Dundee Public School partnered with the National Football League (NFL) to pilot the NFL’s Play 60 program – a 28-day fitness program which motivates kids to move more before, during, and after school for at least 60 minutes a day. Staff from NFL Canada came to the school to help kick-off the fitness program, explain how the program works, and outline what fun activities will be available.
For the 4 weeks following, students, staff and family members got active!
As one of four Canadian schools chosen to participate in the pilot program, there was a bit of friendly competition. The goal for each school was to accumulate the most active minutes, and if your school had the most, a special NFL visitor would pay the school a visit.
With a total of 343,551 minutes of physical activity over the 28 day period, New Dundee PS won the challenge! As a celebration of all the students’ hard work, the NFL awarded New Dundee PS the opportunity to practice with Golden Tate III, current Detroit Lions wide receiver and punt returner and 2013 Super Bowl champion!
Staff, students and family members were at the school to welcome Golden Tate III as he arrived – everyone was so excited and a moment many will never forget. It isn’t often that you get to practice with an NFL player!
Special thank you to former principal Andrea Michelutti for organizing this event that promoted a focus on leading an active lifestyle.
