On December 10th, 2015 over 500 students from the Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB) participated in Skilled Trades Day at Bingemans.

This year’s Skilled Trades Day was a pilot project to revamp the Technology & Skilled Trades Career Showcase of years past. While the Showcase provided students with the opportunity to explore the exhibits provided, Skilled Trades Day focused on encouraging the students to participate in experiential learning.

Marshall Hall was divided in to the four sectors: Motive Power, Service, Construction, and Industrial. Students rotated through each sector to participate in one of six activities representing careers in that sector. Twenty-four companies from our region participated in the event, each providing a hands on activity that introduced the students to the skills and knowledge required for the industry. Many of the activities encouraged the students to work collaboratively to finish the task within the quick 20 minute rotations.

Skilled Trades Day was made possible by the WRDSB Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP).
