Students at Conestogo Public School wanted to celebrate World Cancer Day in a big way.

With the leadership of their Colts4Change team, students raised $1,000 for the Hospice of Waterloo Region through cancer ribbon awareness sales. In addition to this fundraiser, a Grade 8 student had his hair cut in front of the school and donated it to Locks of Love. This is an organization that creates wigs and hairpieces for men, women and children who have lost their hair due to cancer treatments.

Representatives from the hospice were able to join and accepted the donation with gratitude. The hospice plans to use the money to provide children with grief counselling through individual counselor or as part of a children’s bereavement support group.

Thank you to Conestogo’s supportive and generous school community for making their first social initiative of 2015 a great one!
