To help kick-off the 2015 Toronto Pan Am/Parapan Am Games and the Torch Relay, Country Hills Public School had a special visit by the Pan Am Games Community Tour Committee.
Local athlete, WRDSB alumni and Pan Am Games ambassador Mandy Bujold, and the official 2015 Pan Am/Parapan Games mascot PACHI the Porcupine, made a special appearance, helping to educate and engage the staff, students and special guests. Mayor Carl Zehr, Chairperson Ted Martin, Vice Chair Elliot Fung, Trustee Margaret Johnston, and Kitchener City Councillors Yvonne Fernandes and Kelly Galloway-Sealock visited the school to participate and support the Pan Am Games assembly. John Bryant, director of education, and Martha Deacon, executive officer, of the WRDSB were also on hand to welcome the special guests on behalf of the board.
The Pan Am committee taught the school and its visitors all about the games, the different sports and countries participating, and encouraged students to ask questions and participate in trivia. To top off the event, everyone got up to learn the PACHI wiggle!
During the presentation, Mandy, the first ever gold medalist in the women’s boxing category at the Pan Am Games, talked about her incredible journey and the difficulties she’s been faced with along the way. She reinforced that no matter what the obstacle in life you are faced with, never give up on your hopes and dreams.
Each student received a PACHI sticker and bookmark. A big thank you to the 2015 Toronto Pan Am/Parapan Am Games Committee and Country Hills PS for organizing such a fun event!
