On May 21, Westheights Public School celebrated the completion of an exciting outdoor learning and environmental enhancement project made possible through a $10,000 grant from LoveMyHood, in partnership with the City of Kitchener. This funding supported the planting of trees and native shrubs, as well as the creation of a new rock-seating outdoor learning area that will benefit students, staff and the broader community for years to come.

Outdoor learning provides meaningful opportunities for students to connect with nature while fostering curiosity, creativity, collaboration, reflection, and wellness. Environmental learning helps students understand that even small actions can have a lasting impact. Every tree planted, native shrub added and lesson taught in this space contributes to a healthier environment and a stronger sense of community responsibility.

While the project has transformed a physical space, it represents something much bigger. It reflects partnership, shared vision, community pride, and our collective responsibility to care for the environment and for one another. We are grateful to LoveMyhood and the City of Kitchener for their generous support and belief in this project. Their investment helped turn an idea into a living, growing space that will benefit not only WRDSB students, but the entire community.

We look forward to continuing to grow and develop this space as part of our ongoing commitment to outdoor learning and environmental stewardship for future generations.
