October is Learning Disabilities Awareness Month in Canada. It’s a chance for all of us to be better informed.
About Learning Disabilities Awareness Month
It’s a chance to learn about the strengths and the challenges experienced by those with learning disabilities. This month, and every month, we can all help to:
- Highlight the strengths and achievements of those with a learning disability
- Reduce the stigma of learning disabilities
Facts about Learning Disabilities
Learning Disabilities:
- Affect approximately 10% of Canadians
- Are difficulties in processing information
- They occur in spite of average or above average thinking and reasoning abilities

- However, these factors can compound the impact
Supporting Students with Learning Disabilities in the WRDSB
The WRDSB uses a tiered approach for students with a learning disability. The tiered approach allows for a continuum of supports and interventions to be available. These will reflect the strengths and learning needs of the individual student.
