The following is a message from Stephen Lecce, Minister of Education, for graduating students and their families:

This school year has been an exceptional one. I’d like to extend my deep appreciation to all of you for your efforts in supporting our students.

When students returned last September, it was to schools that were open with a plan that was approved by the Chief Medical Officer of Health. Those who chose to learn remotely were provided with synchronous learning to ensure they were learning what their peers were.

When circumstances caused us to temporarily move all students to remote learning, to delay March break to April, and to keep remote learning in place until the end of the school year, students responded by being flexible and adapting.

We should be extremely proud of the resilience that they have demonstrated during this period.

To celebrate Ontario’s students, the Premier announced that in-person graduation ceremonies could take place. Many teachers and schools did what they could to allow students to see their friends in person for the first time in months.

Although these graduations were not what we’ve come to expect, it is important that we recognize this milestone for those graduating from Kindergarten, Grade 6, Grade 8 and Grade 12.
