Today, the Federal Government announced that, unfortunately, the Region of Waterloo did not win the Smart Cities Challenge. We would like to congratulate the City of Montreal for winning this incredibly competitive challenge and, of course, Smart Waterloo Region for their tireless efforts put forth in this process. Their work saw the Region of Waterloo shortlisted as one of five finalists in the large cities category of the Federal Government’s Smart Cities Challenge, an impressive victory in itself.

The work done by Smart Waterloo Region and their partners, including the Waterloo Region District School Board, will not go to waste. The innovative concepts, ideas and solutions outlined in the final application will, no doubt, be employed through other means to make life in Waterloo Region better for our youth and children.

We want to take this opportunity to say thank you to all those who supported this endeavour and a special thanks to the Region of Waterloo for recognizing the importance of making children and youth a top priority.
