At the WRDSB, our students know that at the core of any strong community, is its partnerships. Students at Manchester Public School were looking for a local opportunity to give back and thought that teaming up with the Cambridge Fire Department was the perfect way to support a good cause.

In its ninety-seventh year, the Cambridge Firefighters BasketFund has delivered food and toys to families in need over the holidays. Firefighters collect donations, organize events, and distribute packages across the community, to approximately 400 families. They turn to local schools and businesses for help.

Manchester Public School students and staff were quick to step-up by creating a special campaign to raise awareness for the BasketFund food drive.  Students decorated the donation boxes with attention-grabbing designs, and staff donated fun activities to promote participation. Over a few weeks, Manchester Public School was able to collect more than 30 full boxes of non-perishable food to be distributed to the community.

The incredible efforts of our dedicated students and staff, across many WRDSB schools, makes a significant impact on our community. We would like to recognize and congratulate all the schools who participated in the Cambridge Firefighters BasketFund campaign this year and who have made a remarkable difference in the community.
