Families across Canada are recognizing Media Literacy Week from November 6-10. This week puts a spotlight on the importance of digital and media literacy as a key part in the education of our kids.

What is Media Literacy?

Media literacy is about how to critically understand the nature, techniques and impacts of media messages. Talking about media literacy is an opportunity to have children and youth examine how they are influencing and being influenced by popular culture.

Parents and caregivers have a central role to play in helping our youth understand how to effectively find and evaluate online content, as well as create and share online content. Part of this is about learning how we become good digital citizens by respecting people’s feelings, privacy and property when we are online.
