A reminder to staff and visitors that road closures are expected surrounding the Education Centre in the near future.

It is expected around Thursday, May 25th that Homer Watson Boulevard and Alpine Road will both be closed on the south side of Ottawa Street. They will remain closed for about 14 weeks. This is in addition to the current highway ramp closures in this same area.

A temporary four-lane bypass road will open on the north side of Ottawa Street at the Alpine and Homer Watson traffic lights to ease traffic and pedestrian access. A right turn off Ottawa Street and south onto Alpine Road will allow access to businesses on Alpine. Other locations south of Ottawa will be accessed via a detour using Strasburg Road, Block Line Road and Courtland Avenue (see example maps below). Grand River Transit buses will continue to operate in both directions on Ottawa Street, with temporary bus stops provided.

Recommended alternate routes to the Education Centre

An alternate route to the Education Centre from Courtland Avenue East allows you to avoid the closed off-ramp at Ottawa & Alpine, as well as the closure of Homer Watson south of Ottawa St.

An alternate route via Ottawa Street is to take Strasburg Rd south to Block Line Rd. From Block Line you may be able to access Homer Watson Blvd to head north to Hanson, or you may access Hanson Avenue from Block Line via Lennox Lewis Way if Homer Watson in not accessible.

Remaining stages of the project planned for September and October will have sufficient work finished to open both roundabouts with reduced lanes, and reopen the connections to Alpine Road south and Homer Watson Boulevard south. Brief closures of Ottawa Street at night or on weekends will be required for the final paving in October.
