Nutrition for Learning is off to a quick start at Linwood Public School.

Since 1997, Nutrition for Learning has supported community based programs committed to improving the learning capacity, health and well-being of children and youth in Waterloo Region. Research has shown that students coming to school hungry don’t perform well in the classroom, have difficulty concentrating, display behavioural problems, are less alert and are often lethargic.

With the help of a number of teachers, parent volunteers and Nutrition for Learning, over 100 students each Tuesday and Thursday are able to start the day with a nutritious breakfast.

Each morning, a dedicated group of parents and teachers prepare the meal. It may consist of eggs, yogurt or fruit for example. Due to the high number of students coming each morning staff must serve in waves to accommodate them all. In a period of 20 minutes, more than 100 students go into the library, eat and are back outside before the bell rings.

A big thank you to Nutrition for Learning for providing delicious breakfasts and to the wonderful parent and teacher volunteers!
