Preston HS Celebrate Paralympic Athletes

March 7th, 2014

To celebrate the start of the Paralympic Games in Sochi, Russia, Preston High School in Cambridge got into the spirit by hosting two Paralympic athletes.

Paul Rosen and Shayne Smith, both sledge hockey players, visited the school and spoke to students at an assembly as part of Paralympic Schools Week. Paralympic Schools week takes place during the 12 days between the Olympic and Paralympic Games (February 24 – March 7). Twenty-five schools from across the country were selected to host athletes.

Paul and Shayne shared their stories with students, and both stories had similar themes: never give up, and always believe in yourself.

A big thank you to the Canadian Paralympic Committee for organizing Paralympic Schools Week, and a big Panther Pride thank you to Preston High teacher Lauren Crosby for hosting the event!
