Congratulations to Evelyn Giannopoulos on her new role as Associate Director with the Upper Grand District School Board (UGDSB).

Evelyn first started with the Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB) September 2000, as an elementary teacher at Stewart Avenue Public School. She then moved into the role of Guidance Teacher and Special Education Resource Teacher, becoming an elementary Vice-Principal in March 2005 at Stewart Avenue Public School and then at Westheights Public School in 2006. Evelyn became an elementary Principal in January 2008 at Country Hills Public School and in September 2013, moved to Margaret Avenue Public School. Evelyn assumed her role as Superintendent, Student Achievement & Well-Being in March 2017. In her role as Superintendent, in addition to the schools she served, she most recently had portfolio responsibility for:

  • PAR Process – Elementary P Co-Chair
  • WREA Executive Liaison
  • Board Leadership Development Strategy
    • Cross departmental Leadership Development
    • Administrator Onboarding – P & VP
    • School Leadership Learning Structures
    • Mentorship (AMP)

Evelyn plays a key role in supporting the broader public education sector in Ontario through her leadership on the Ontario Public Supervisory Officers Association (OPSOA) Board of Directors, representing the Southwestern Region District School Boards. Through this role she co-leads the Professional Learning Committee which serves to develop the capacity of Supervisory Officers in the Province. Evelyn is also a member of the Educational Computing Network of Ontario (ECNO) Board of Directors, representing Ontario Public Supervisory Officers Association and lending her academic voice and perspective to technology, cyber security and the transformative power of GenerativeAI in educational contexts.

“As I prepare to embark on a new chapter in my career journey, I am filled with gratitude for the incredible 24 years I have spent in the Waterloo Region District School Board. Serving this community has been an honor and I am deeply thankful for the unwavering support, dedication, and collaboration of all those who have supported me along the way,” said Evelyn. “Together, we have weathered challenges, celebrated triumphs, and forged lasting bonds that I will forever cherish. I will carry these cherished memories with sincere appreciation. Thank you for the privilege of leading and learning alongside each and every one of you.”
