Today, Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Kieran Moore strongly recommended masking in all indoor public settings, including schools and childcare settings. This is due to the increased spread of RSV, influenza and COVID-19 among children across Ontario.
While masking is not mandatory, wearing a mask helps to reduce the spread of viruses in our schools. Over the coming weeks, Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB) schools will have masks available to students or staff who wish to wear one. Families/students/staff are also invited to provide and wear their own masks to school, should they choose.
Please also remember to stay home if you are feeling ill. The WRDSB strongly encourages you to use the Ontario School Screener prior to attending school.
We will continue to follow the advice of the Chief Medical Officer of Health and Region of Waterloo Public Health, and we will provide updates should there be any changes in this guidance.
