Congratulations to Matthew Gerard on his new role as Associate Director, Support Services with Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board (HWDSB).

Matt first started with the Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB) in 2014 as the Regional Internal Audit Manager. In 2015, Matt was promoted to Superintendent of Business Services and Treasurer. He then moved into the role of Coordinating Superintendent, Business Services. He was responsible for:

  • Extended Day Programs
  • Facility Services
  • Financial Services
  • Planning
  • Transportation
  • Coordinated Audit Services for the Southwestern District School Boards (Regional Internal Audit Team)

Matt played a key role in supporting the entire public education sector in Ontario through his support of the Ontario Public School Board Association at the Central Bargaining table. Most recently, he provided financial advice during the 2019 Central Collective Bargaining. Additionally, Matt provided his support and expertise as a board member for the:

  • Ontario School Board Insurance Exchange
  • Education Council Associations for Benefits Trust

Matt was also a determined advocate for additional provincial funding for public education through his leadership on the Council of Senior Business Officials.

“It has been both an honour and a privilege to serve the students and staff of Waterloo Region. I won’t soon forget the colleagues and friends I have worked with at the WRDSB,” said Gerard. “I want to thank each of you for your tireless dedication to supporting the students, families and community we served, together.”

“Matt’s vast knowledge, guidance and leadership will be truly missed,” said jeewan chanicka, director of education for the WRDSB. “I know I speak for everyone who has ever had the pleasure of working alongside Matt when I say we wish him and his family nothing but the best.”

We appreciate the time, talent and leadership Matt shared with all of us during his tenure and wish him every success as he takes the next step in his career. Matt’s last day with the WRDSB will be November 18, 2022.
