The Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB) will host the 33rd annual Canadian Student Leadership Conference (CSLC) at Sir John A. Macdonald Secondary School on September 26 – 30, 2017, in partnership with all 16 of our secondary schools.

The CSLC is the only national student leadership conference offered in Canada and moves from province to province, giving a new school and community the chance to host each year. This unique experience brings together over 1,000 students and advisors from across the country for a week of leadership workshops, keynote speakers, volunteer experiences, and professional development opportunities.

WRDSB’s leadership programs have dedicated leadership teachers, courses and programs to help students become the leaders of tomorrow. Aligning with our newly developed strategic plan, the CSLC in Waterloo gives our students the opportunity to pursue individual learning pathways, develop skills for the future and inspire global citizenship.

“The 2017 Canadian Student Leadership Conference is a great opportunity to highlight the creativity, innovation and leadership this generation has to offer both our region and the entire country,” said Stephen Gray, Southwood Secondary School teacher and co-chair of the leadership conference. “We feel that the Waterloo Region and the WRDSB are renowned for their innovative and collaborative spirit.”

Gray joins Sandy Millar, a leadership teacher at Sir John A. Macdonald SS, as well as students, who form the conference organizing committee.

“The CSLC is one way our Board can provide a learning environment that includes all students and their diverse perspectives and ideas in a community that thrives on new concepts and bright minds,” said John Bryant, director of education. “We are honoured and excited to welcome the delegates from all over Canada to Waterloo Region.”
