Each year, the Director’s Annual Report highlights the past year’s achievements.

The 2020 Annual Report provides a snapshot of our students’ and staff achievements over the past year, highlighting accomplishments, good news stories and advancements in learning, equity and well-being. We are very proud of our accomplishments and how far we have come towards reaching our strategic goals, while navigating the added challenges related to COVID-19.

Highlights

Teaching, Learning and Feeding the Community in Blair
On a brisk October morning near the end of the harvesting season, Dave Skene and Sarina Perchak gathered at the Indigenous Food Garden, located at the Blair Outdoor Education Centre in Cambridge. Skene and Perchak are both with the White Owl Native Ancestry Association (WONAA) – Skene an Executive Director and Perchak a Land Based Education Coordinator. The two were busy taking an overview of the plot as they prepared for the task of putting the garden to rest for the season. Read more.

Walking for Hope at Waterloo Collegiate Institute
Health and safety regulations may have kept them physically distant, but students and staff at Waterloo Collegiate Institute (WCI) came together in support of reuniting families with the Walk for Hope. They walked the 9,731 km distance from WCI to Syria in an effort to raise the money needed to sponsor the reunification of a refugee family. The parents and three daughters are safe in Canada, but two of their brothers are in dangerous conditions overseas. Read more.

Being an Equity Champion at Elgin Street PS
During a time when our administrators have the added responsibility of keeping our students and staff safe during a pandemic, Amanpreet Dhaul, Vice-Principal at Elgin Street Public School in Cambridge, has continued to make her school a welcoming place for all. Her kind demeanour, professional leadership and personal connection caught the attention of newly welcomed Kindergarten teacher and WRDSB staff member Monisha Randhawa, who nominated her to be a WRDSB 2020 Champion.
