Ted Martin Acclaimed as Chairperson of the Board
Kitchener, ON: At the Inaugural Meeting of the Waterloo Region District School Board held last night, trustees acclaimed Ted Martin as Chairperson of the Board, and Elliot Fung was acclaimed as Vice Chairperson.

Mr. Martin served as chair for the 2012-13 school year, and was elected as trustee in 1998. Mr. Fung became a trustee in 2012; this is his first time serving as Vice-Chair of the Board.

In his address to trustees, Mr. Martin emphasized the important role that he and his colleagues play in public education.

“My primary goal as Chair continues to be ensuring that all trustees are treated fairly and heard equally, as we work together to enhance student learning and well-being, and advocate for a strong public education system.”

A chairperson and vice-chairperson are elected annually at the December Inaugural meeting. Their term begins immediately. By Board by-law, they may serve for a maximum of two consecutive years.
