Waterloo Region District School Board – Committee of the Whole Meeting

On April 15, 2013 at 7:00pm, the WRDSB held its Committee of the Whole Meeting. The agenda and reports for this meeting are available on the Board’s website by clicking here.

One delegation appeared at the meeting, speaking to Board Magnet Programs.

Reports

Optimized Learning Presentation ~ Mathematics (For Information)
Superintendent of Education, Laura Hodgins, provided a presentation about Optimized Learning in relation to Mathematics.

School Year Calendars 2013-14 (For Approval)
This report provides details about the consultation process to arrive at the school year calendar for 2013/14.
Trustees approved the following recommendation:
That the Waterloo Region District School Board approve the 2013-14 school year calendars containing 194 school days as outlined in Appendices A,B, C and D of the report titled “School Year Calendars- 2013-14.”

Motion from Trustee C.  Harrington re Magnet Programs (For Approval)
This motion from Trustee Harrington recommends that any changes to Board Magnet Programs would require a formal motion of acceptance by trustees and also be supported by relevant statistics pertaining to the history of the program.

Trustees did not approve the following recommendation:

That the Waterloo Region District School Board bring forward reports on changes to the Magnet Program that:

1) These decisions need formal motions of acceptance by the Board of Trustees;
2) Changes be supported by the relevant statistics pertaining to the history of the programs;
3) Changes be looked at through a lens of public participation.

Notice of Proposed Bylaw Amendments – Committee Structure; Articles 1, 4 and 5 (For Approval)
As a result of the approved revised committee structure for the Board (April 8, 2013), changes to Articles 1, 4 and 5 in the Board Bylaws must be made.

Trustees approved the following recommendation:
That the Waterloo Region District School Board approved the consideration of amendments to Articles 1, 4 and 5 of the Board Bylaws as outlined in the attached Appendix A, at the April 22, 2013 Committee of the Whole Meeting.
