The Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB) is considering changing elementary home school assignments for families living in the Southeast Cambridge Development Areas. The proposed change includes the following schools:
The WRDSB will review the current holding school for the Hazel Glenn neighbourhood in Cambridge, located north of Dundas Street South between Vanier Drive and Attwater Drive. The area is currently designated as a Development Area, as outlined in AP 4992 – Temporary Student Accommodation for Development Areas. Students living here have been assigned to Moffat Creek Public School as their temporary holding school. The proposed change would see students living in the Hazel Glenn neighbourhood attend Giinawind Public School beginning in September 2027.
What is a Development Area?
A Development Area is a new or growing neighbourhood that has not yet been permanently assigned to a school. Students living in these areas are temporarily assigned to a Holding School until a long-term school attendance boundary can be established.

Summary of Proposed Changes
To ensure we can continue to meet the needs of students, parents, families and caregivers in the years ahead, we are proposing to reassign students living in this Development Area from Moffat Creek Public School to Giinawind Public School.
For those living in the impacted boundary:
- Students in Junior Kindergarten to Grade 6 who live in this area and currently attend Moffat Creek Public School will attend Giinawind Public School, starting September 2027.
- Students currently attending Moffat Creek Public School in Grade 7 and who will be entering Grade 8 in the 2027-28 school year will have the choice to remain at Moffat Creek Public School; or attend Giinawind Public School.
- Students who live in this area would be eligible for bussing to Giinawind Public School.
- Students enrolled in French Immersion at Moffat Creek Public School will remain there, but will no longer be eligible for transportation.
- Siblings of students in French Immersion will have the option to remain at Moffat Creek Public School, but will no longer be eligible for transportation.
