The Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB) is preparing for a boundary review in West Waterloo. This review will examine the attendance boundaries for:
- Edna Staebler Public School
- Vista Hills Public School
- Abraham Erb Public School
- Laurelwood Public School
The review will officially begin in Fall 2026, with any changes to school boundaries starting in September 2027. You may submit initial comments below using the feedback button.
Why We Are Conducting a Boundary Review
The WRDSB conducts boundary reviews to help ensure that schools:
- Have the space and resources to support current students
- Can continue to meet the demands of growing residential neighbourhoods
To ensure we can continue to meet the needs of students, parents, families and caregivers in the years ahead, we are conducting this review to examine options that would allow students to attend the school closest to their homes. Proposed changes would support more walkable, connected neighbourhood school boundaries.
The construction of a new pedestrian crossover at Columbia St W and St. Moritz Ave is scheduled to begin this spring. This crossover will be part of the suggested route for students zoned in the current attendance boundary area for Edna Staebler to walk safely to school.
Timeline
The formal boundary review process for West Waterloo will begin in Fall 2026. The review process will include consultation with parents, families and caregivers of students who attend Edna Staebler Public School, Vista Hills Public School, Abraham Erb Public School and Laurelwood Public School.
As the process moves forward, the WRDSB will share regular updates and opportunities for family and staff input.
The Board of Trustees is the ultimate approval body for any boundary change. If the Board of Trustees approve a change, students who live within the new school boundaries will receive a communication from the Board with further information about next steps.
Out-Of-Boundary Requests
For the time being, Vista Hills and Laurelwood Public Schools will not accept out-of-boundary requests for the 2026-27 school year. This change is supported by Administrative Procedure 1040. This status will be evaluated after the boundary review.
