Rockway Public School is excited to announce the official opening of their new outdoor learning space!
Complete with natural play features, shade, seating, discovery centres, water play, sensory elements and dramatic play areas, this redesigned area will promote imaginative play, exploration, outdoor learning and provide a variety of activities to support large and small muscle development.
It’s been one year since Rockway PS staff slept outside as part of their Camp Out Fundraiser initiative for the Rockway PS Greening Project, and the school has since raised an astonishing $65,000 by various fundraising efforts. Staff and students had the opportunity to unveil the completed greening project to its school community with a ribbon cutting ceremony, speeches, and a performance by the kindergarten students.
The celebration included Rockway PS staff and students, WRDSB delegates such as WRDSB Superintendent of Student Achievement & Well-Being Graham Shantz and WRDSB Trustees Kathi Smith, and special donor guests TD Friends of the Environment, Toyota Evergreen Learning Grounds, and Lyle S. Hallman Foundation. Bobbie Chatha, Rockway PS principal, and Katherine Sestan-Jones, Rockway PS teacher and fundraising campaign organizer, took the opportunity to recognize their donors for their contributions, and thank the school’s community for their support and generosity.
This new space will positively impact the lives of our Rockway PS students and strengthen the surrounding school community for years to come. We are so proud of all the staff, students and community members who came together and helped make this vision a reality – congratulations Rockway Roos!
