Grand River Collegiate Institute (GRCI), home of the Renegades, is celebrating its 50th anniversary this weekend, Friday, June 3 and Saturday, June 4, 2016, with musical and acting talents from students, artwork, various decade displays, alumni athletic games, a golf tournament, BBQ, the opening of the drama time capsule, and so much more.

On Friday, GRCI will kick off the weekend with an opening ceremony. Several dignitaries including Kitchener-Centre MP Raj Saini, Kitchener-Centre MPP Daiene Vernile, WRDSB Chair of the Board Kathleen Woodcock, Director of Education John Bryant, Superintendent of Student Achievement & Well-Being Graham Shantz, and WRDSB Trustees Kathi Smith and Carol Millar will be in attendance to help mark this special occasion. The ceremony will also include the unveiling of the Decade Lockers display by the original GRCI staff members who opened the school in 1966.

Continuing the fun on Saturday, GRCI will entertain past and present students, staff and families through art, music, acting and sports during the Renegades Reunite Community Open House. In addition, displays of historical memorabilia will be showcased in classrooms. Visit old classrooms, meet previous teachers or catch up with old and new friends over a snack at their Tuck Shop or outside at the Food Truck Lunch. If you’re able to make it, be sure to check out the new Decade Lockers that showcase “Renegade Heritage. Renegade Pride. Renegade Legacy.”

The Reunion Committee has worked hard to prepare this weekend and expect close to 1,000 alumni to attend the many multigenerational activities organized. There is something for everyone of all ages!

The entire Grand River school community, including alumni and former staff, are invited to come out and celebrate!
